TED Questions

The questions that we asked Josh are taken from a post on ideas.ted.com. These are great questions to get to know your loved ones better.

What are you grateful for?

I am grateful for the ones that stand by my side, and I’m thankful that they love me as much as they do.

What are you proudest of?

Making it through 10 years of incarceration and not breaking through that whole ten years. [Silence] I don’t know. I’ve never really been proud of anything I’ve done. […] I am proud that I haven’t let this place break me after 10 years. I’m proud that I haven’t given up, that I’ve always kept fighting.

What’s been the happiest moment of your life so far?

The happiest moment was probably the day that Steff told me that she loved me. Then, right at that moment, I realized that I actually finally had somebody that was there for me, that loved me back.

What’s been the hardest moment of your life, and how did you get through it?

The hardest “moment” of my life has been my incarceration. That whole “moment” of being locked up has been the hardest of my life. How did I make it through it? Well, I guess I just kept up hope that one day I would have the opportunity to leave and walk out of this place, and be able to spend time with the ones that I love. That’s the one thing that has helped me get through it.

What are the most important lessons you’ve learned in life?

The most important lessons that I’ve learned in life are that all your actions define you in the end, regardless of good or bad, they define you in the end. They make everybody see you for who you are. Also, think before you react. Another thing would be to learn new things, even if it hurts you or you don’t like it.

Who has been kindest to you?

The kindest person to me is Steff. She’s incredible. She stood by me through everything so far. She’s the most selfless person I’ve met that’s been in my life. She is always there for me through everything, regardless of what it is, whether it’s emotional or even support in every other aspect of this life.

How do you want to be remembered?

I don’t really know. I guess I just want those that know me to remember me as the person that I was: a good friend, who wasn’t perfect but yet tried his best to make up for his mistakes.

If your great great grandchildren could listen to this years from now: is there any wisdom you’d want to pass on to them? What would you want them to know?

The greatest thing in life is to learn. Learning is the key to develop character. Once you learn something, nobody can lead you astray, cause you know the truth behind it.
